We live in Atlanta. How would tile floors look throughout my home?
Question:We would love to put in tile floors throughout the mainfloor of our home (because of damage that my dogs nails do to the wood floors we currently own). But, I'm worried that this would have a negative impact on the value of our home (due to the region, etc). What do you think? Should we put in tile?
Answers:
Rather than shiny ceramic tiles which can tend to look cheap (whether they are or not), you might want to try stone tiles. They have texture, variegated color, and depending on type of stone, can be very good at hiding dog hair. Slate is a really beautiful choice. I would go to a flooring store and tell them about your dilemma...they can even loan you out samples to take into your house and see what they look like on the floor.
I have tile floors in all of my house except the bedrooms. I personally do not like them all that much. If I were going to live here for a long time I'd have wood floors put in in the living, dining and halls. I do prefer tile to carpet, but that's about it. They always seem to be dirty, and washing them well is a pain. No matter how you seal the grout it does dirty after a while. As far as resale goes, I think more people are looking for hardwood floors rather than tile. But it is a personal preferance.
