Ways to cool down my room.?
Question:I have an horrible situation. In my house my room seems to be hell in summer. I dont have a big window and is facing the sun. In the morning in the best place to be because is cool. But in the afternoon and night, it turns into hell. I am usually at home in the afternoon and night so, I have to suffer the extreme heat, sometime is so hard you cant really breath there. Is there a way to cool down my room without the need to use electricity?. Does aluminium foil on the window really helps?

Keep the shade drawn, but the window open. Wet your curtains and run them through the spin cycle so they're not saturated. Hang the curtains. They'll dry in about 20 minutes but will cool the room a bit in the process. Also, it's good to open the window at night to let the cool air in but close it in the morning to keep it there. I know it sounds scary to close the window but it works. You really should use an a/c or at least a fan, heat can be deadly.
Well, if you don't want to use electricity, it's not going to be easy.
Here's some tips that will help a little though:::
Brighten your room up. If you have lots of blacks and dark colors, get rid of it.
Use a light colored shade or curtain on the window to keep the sun from beating in.
You can use the foil but, it's not going to look nice at all. I highly suggest investing in a fan. It makes a huge difference.
There are a number of ways to cool down your room.
Open the window at night so the cool comes in. When you get up early in the morning, close the window and close the drapes or blinds to keep the sun away. Closing the window will keep the cool inside and the heat outside.
You say your room is facing south: What color is your room painted? I know it sounds silly, but it really is true that color affects how you feel in your room. If a southern room is painted a warm color (orange, red, yellow, etc.), the room will be suffocating in the summer months. If your room is painted a warm color, change it to a cold color (ice blue, turquoise, cool cucumber green, etc.) This will help, I promise!
If you have an insulation problem, there isn't much that will help except for redoing the insulation...
If you don't want to use electricity, then fans are out of the question, I guess. But know that a ceiling fan would greatly help your situation...
Aluminum foil will reflect the sunlight, so yes, if you put it on your window, the sun's rays will be reflected away. But that means you have no daylight at all or a view... so that leave the decision firmly with you... I would opt for a blackout shade. It's a normal white shade that is dark navy blue-black on the side facing the sun. It will completely block the sun from entering your room and you can still pull it up and have daylight and a view when you want it.
Good luck...
