Are there any better paint options for repainting my antique cradle?
Question:I tried using regular white paint as I used on the walls, but it is just not covering the old brown very well. Any ideas? Will spray paint be easier? It's not easy to paint with all the nooks and crannies..
Answers:
Because you are painting light over dark you will need to prime it first. Know that by repainting it you may be devaluing it if it indeed is antique. In order to brush on primer, you will need to sand the surface you aleady painted so that it has "tooth" or something to stick to. You can spray paint it, but you will still need to prime it first. They do make spray on application primers. But, you will need a stain blocking primer for the best coverage and adhesion. I've spray painted a lot of furniture and found that purchasing a handy spray trigger for a few dollars which attaches on the spray button will give you better control, help you maintain the proper distance to avoid runs and drips. Spray painting does eliminate brush strokes and can give more even coverage, if you do it right.
