Stay with something simple. Use either a neutral color or a color that you know you'll still like in your teen years. Stay away from putting designs on the wall. Use cheap accessories that way if you grow out of them you can get rid of it and buy a new one.
Keep it simple and easy to keep clean,

Buy storage bins for stuff.
Label what goes in them keep under bed, bottom /top of closet etc.
Think of the things that interest you and go on that theme, but dont go overboard, cause at 9, you will like something else in a year or so. Think of what you are interested in and decorate it accordingly.
My daughter was 12 when she didn't want a pink room any longer so she painted it blue with purple sponging on the walls.
She had 3 shelves up high on 2 walls that she painted the same color and put her porcelain dolls on them.
On the two other walls she had posters of the race car driver she likes. And also some Disney posters.
She had a desk, dresser, a piece of furniture like a entertainment center for a TV for her X-Box, stereo, games, and CDs. Bed.
She spent lots of time in there.
You don't need to spend a lot of money if you repaint to a color you like.
