Can I melt down my old useless candles to reuse the wax? How?
Question:I have old candles that has lots of wax left, but the string or wick or whatever you call 'em is way to short to burn. What to do with it? Serious answers please.

I did the same things to mine. You put your little bits of candle
in a tin can. or an old pot, designated for this purpose, and the
handle makes it easier to use than a tin can. Place on the medium
setting of the burner, melt slowly..til melted down to the liquid way.
It will not have the nice colors...though, thats too bad. thats the
way it is with recycled candle wax. You'll get black usually. Depends on how many different colors you have to melt. The
color black is not a true color, it is the melding..or muddling
of all colors TOGETHER. All colors put together equal black.
Some people don't know this already, but us artists do. It doesn't matter if its oil paints, or wax. Next..you will need the candle
wick string.must use heavy twine cotton. twine. It is best if
purchased at craft store. You don't need a mold, you can use
the candle holders for the molds. You will pour a little into the
candle holder after you place the metal wick chicklet with the
string into it down in the bottom...pour melted wax, as you old the
wick UP.and let it dry.by blowing into it, a few moments. Then,
add more wax to this.holding the wick UP...by hand. sometimes,
you will want to hold the wick string tall and find an article to do it,
instead of by your own hand...its tireing. This is why most people
don't bother with doing this. I'll tell you something easier to do
with your left over candle wax too. .. Gather ye pine cones...
from somewhere, and dip them into the salvaged wax meltovers
and dip these pine cones several times, til well coated. These
are "pretty", sitting around, and smell great! They are good fire
starters to keep under a table, in a basket, til you need them.
This is a fun thing to do with left over wax. I think its more worthwhile the time...doing these than the candles. dipped cones
are pretty costly bought!! Of coarse you can get fancy with some
cinnamon. OIL...added to them.into the wax. This costs more though.
Its not frugal. ALSO, glitter on them while still wet.!! Great Gifts!!
You can glue little loops onto the top, for hangers...of the cones.
even spray glue, in a can.onto them, this helps the glitter adhere better.and is a real FIRE ENHANCER -Flame starter. Have fun!!
rope, as a wick and a flame thrower
Fill a saucepan about 1/2 way with water, put the wax in a bowl floating in the saucepan. Now put the pan on your stove's burner, and watch the wax melt! Keep adding more dead candles until you fill the bowl up with wax. Making new candles is pretty simple once you get the new wick. (If you don't stir up the wax, you can get new candles with cool color patterns).
Have fun!
someone I used to work with helped me with this one before as I had bought some "jarred" candles from a fundraiser that would burn down thru the center, leaving a small unlightable wick and lots around the sides of the jar.
Buy new wicks ( with metal disc at one end) at a craft store and place your jars/candles on a cookie sheet and place in low heated oven --
You can center the wicks disc in a clean dry jar and very carefully attach scotch tape to the side of the jar (or hold it for now)
Pour the melted wax into the new jar and let cool --of course if you have not attached wick to side of jar while keeping it centered you need to do this now, you do not want to hold it while the wax cools and hardens.
hope this helps-hopefully your scents will blend into something new and wonderful
I've done the make new candles from old. The only thing you need to be careful of is that you add similar scents and colors together or you get a ugly stinky mess.
I also save old candles and make fire starters. They are a great recycle project.
You need:
Pressed paper egg cartons
Dryer lint
Old candles
You fill the egg cartons with the dryer lint then pore milted candles over them until they filled with the wax. After they dry cut them up. The fire starters are great you can use them with grills, camping and wood stoves.

Melt the candles in a double saucepan. If you haven't one just place the candles in a tin or small saucepan and place this tin or saucepan in bigger saucepan which has water in it. Heat the water and the candle wax will melt. Like when and how you melt chocolate.
When the wax has melted you can have fun making new candles with new wicks. Line little container with foil and they will come out easily when dry.
Be careful as wax burns...
