I need new flooring in my home.?
Question:I'm looking for some type of new flooring in my home. right now it is all carpet and needs an update. Should I go with new carpet? or tile? or wood? Is one easier to keep new looking than the other? There are five adults living in the home but we have friends with children visit often.

It really depends on the kind of money you want to spend. Carpet would probably be most economical, but it get's dirty from traffic and spills so you have to have it cleaned occasionally. Wood is a popular choice, if it fits the style and decor of your home. It is a little pricey, but nice. Tile is OK, but has a cold, hard feel to it. All solid surface floors will get dusty very quickly, so if you like to walk barefoot, but don't like to sweep, get carpet.
I haven't used this but I checked into cork flooring once. A site( I'm sorry I can't remember which one. It was either www.ecofriendlyliving.com or www.ecochoices.com.) They said it gives off less chemicals than other man-made types of flooring. It is suppose to last something like 30 years. It also gives - like the indentions you get from high heels and furniture, the floor will go back to the way it was. Check it out, it sounds like what you need.
Wood is so resilient and beautiful and easy to take care of. Look into the pre-done strips offered by Bruce and others. They have many coats of polyurethane on them which also helps with the durability issues.
I would look into bamboo. Check out websites that sell wood flooring. Bamboo grows and grows and there is no shortage at all. Not like a tree (oak) which takes years and years to grow to maturity. Bamboo is sturdy and will last a lifetime. Don't get laminate, get real bamboo. Laminate only lasts 10 years.
go to ceramic tile and it also cuts down on allergies from everything gathered in carpeting
