Answers:
There is no better top than granite. It is the best value considering the longevity of the product. You can get almost any color imaginable. Nothing else looks like it, as hard as they may try. Plus it's natural. Unbeatable.
They will outlive you
I have granite countertops and I sell granite coutertops. They are absolutely wonderful. They will last forever, won't scratch, you can sit hot pans on them and they won't damage. They are well worth the money and make a huge difference in the look of a kitchen! I recommend!
We installed Granite Counter Top in our new home 2 years ago. My wife loves them, they are really easy to clean, they always look great and we have had no problems at all. Our previous hoe had ceramic tile tops and we had to regrout about every 2 years and occasionally replace broken tiles
I work as a kitchen specialist for a major home improvement company and I have the choice between selling Laminate, Corian, several other acrylic solid surfaces, one quarz product and ganite.
I push granite. But I always make my customers aware that granite needs upkeep. It will need to be cleaned and resealed every 1 1/2 - 2 years.
Is it worth it? I believe that you would get more resale value out of granite than any other product. As long as you don't mind the visible seams and the upkeep, it is a fantastic product.
You should find granite competitively priced with Corian and some other Acrylics. It also prices well against some quartz materials. It is well worth the cost.
The cost has come down so that they are now less than some of the other kinds. You can also buy granite tiles and bullnose edging if you are on a tight budget. I prefer granite since you can do almost anything to it and not harm it. It's definitely worth it. I did mine with 12x12 Granite tiles for less than 1000.00. That included all the wood and edging to build the counter.
Good luck!
