We have just brought new wood surfaces and used Tung oil to coat it, we gave it about 5 coats, but now?
Question:when we walk in the door at night it stinks like something has gone off. why ?

Tung oil takes a while to fully dry, but it will. Make sure you don't have any puddles and give it a week or so.
Tung oil takes about six weeks to fully cure, with 5 coats, you should expect it to take that long. Tung oil is not a durable surface at all so if you used in on horizontal surfaces, you will have to repair it frequently, the good news it is very easy to repair, just sand and add new coats.
