Mardi gras bead centerpiece?
Question:Do you just put water and the beads in a clear vase how do you get the beads to float? use some kind of oil? click the link to see what i'm trying to figure out. i saw it on a couple wedding shows as well as swt 16. Just trying to figure out how it works..

Another way I have done this effect is to use liquid acrylic water and plastic beads. This you can get in quantity at the craft stores. The plastic beads are light enough to float in the heavy acrylic "fake" water and you have time to adjust their positioning. I also like to add cheap silk and plastic flowers in and around the beading to match whatever theme I'm working on and it looks spectacular! I've tried all kinds of oils to achieve this effect, from veggie, to olive, to macadamia, to lamp and the beads sink as do the flowers. It won't support the weight like acrylic water will.
You need beads that are not glass. Glass is very dense and won't float on much of anything short of mercury.
