Step 1. Buy yourself a big blank boxed canvas and some students acrylic paints. A boxed canvas is the type of canvas artists use and you can paint around it's sides as well as on the main surface. You don't need to frame these, they look really good without frames. Get the biggest one you can afford, and shop around, because there are some really expensive ones and some pretty cheap ones too. Go for the cheap stuff, I'm guessing you're not a budding Leonardo Da Vinci.

Step 2. Invite your favourite people around, tell them to wear old clothes. Lay down newspaper or an old sheet and get painting. You'll end up with a completely original artwork that will always remind you of your friends, and it will make your room look very personal.

Add white shelves in different sizes (Target has some great ones that are easy to install) and display some of your favorite things. On another wall frame photos of friends or things you like. An inexpensive way to do this is to cut pages from magazines of cool stuff and frame them. OR buy yourself a great digital camera, go on a photo shoot and take some photos that you can crop, enhance, etc. on the computer and print off and frame!

Pink is such a yesterday color! Make a change, be daring. You want your room to say "I've grown up." Vibrant colors are great for accents. You want something that is rich and sophisticated. What about painting one of the walls a raspberry color. The white shelves would look very chic on it.

Paint the frames of your pictures all the same raspberry color and then arrange them like a gallery, close together and stacked. What an awesome room you will have!
Make a faux (fake) window setting on a big wall. Hang curtains and drape back. Place a big mirror or an old window on the wall to make it look like it is much bigger than it really is.

You can place some pictures on the inside of the glass shabby chic panels to show off your hobbies, family, friends, something like a big collage. Call it the window of oppritunities for a conversation piece.

Place a nice plushy chair and pillows around to make a nice setting as a guest area for seating. Maybe a fainting sofa futon would work for sleep overs or lounging to read a book.

What ever you do, make it you for sure. I think you would be surprised what it would look like. Sketch it out to see first.
