What color shoudl I paint a basement apartment?
Question:The walls are currently WHITE. This makes the place look really bright and that's good, because it is a basement. The carpet is essentially purply brown - a light color, with some grey and green speckles. All together it blends to brown. I am thinking a light green color might work. Ideas?
Answers:
I like the idea of a light green myself. It is bright and calming to look at but then I am thinking it may be too bright depending on how big your basement is. If it is of a good size room, I would be adventurous and add another color to the palette for some nice character in the room. This would give you another accent color for the carpet as well. Take the darker purply brown color for example and go 2 - 3 shades lighter and paint one wall that color the rest of the walls the light green. Then on the darker color add light pictures / decoration to the wall to bring the color scheme together. Have fun with it and don't be afraid to add color. Good Luck!
Given the carpet, I'd go with a light yellow; you could add a darker yellow trim. Yellow is one of the colors that we human beings see best, so it will help "perk up" a dark basement without having to use plain white.
lavender/ sage or mint green/ lt grey or green-grey or tan... then figure out what accent colors u would like to do the rest of the room in.. like lamps/shades/ etc...
B creative & have fun!
a warm buttery yellow would work. just make sure its a neutral yellow that goes with the carpet and most wood tones, not that pastel or garish dayglow one. you cant really pick a dark color for a basement.
if you are painting for yourself and you know green would go with your furniture, go with the green. if you are renting the apartment out, go for that green that is kind of tan. again, that is a warm color that is neutral and goes with everyones stuff.
I think a light green would be cute...but make sure it isn't too dark considering that it's a basement apartment and you would want keep it nice and lively.:-) Good Luck! (oh and something else to consider: a nice off-white might blend nice with the brown carpet as well...still keeping it modern and all)
Think about adding a med. sage green to the lower half of the walls and adding a chair rail. Keeping the upper part white will still give you that light look and the green adds warmth and rich color. Accent with deep eggplant pillows, bedspread, etc.
Lets see, a basement apartment with purply brown carpet (preferably shag) should definately be painted flat black with a black light and some grotesque flourescent posters. Then crank up some Sisters of Mercy, invite all your Goth friends over, smoke a bunch of dope and talk about how depressing life is.
Just before you all shoot yourselves, rip out that horrid carpet, put a coat of light colored masonry paint on the floor, get some cool throw rugs, some sun colored paint for the walls, some creative indirect lighting iluminating your favorite theme art, and hang an antique mirror or two. Then throw some dance music on the box and have a party.
I suggest martinis. Dope sux.
