How do you make the straightest lines when taping off a room for painting?

Question:My walls are bumpy textured and it's a pain in the butt to do all the touch-ups after I take the tape off, is there a better way?

Answers:
When I tape the ceiling so I can paint the wall, I use white ceiling paint and paint over the edge of the tape. It seals the edge and leaves straight lines. The same principle applies with any color. I painted green stripes over beige paint in my son's bedroom. I used the beige paint to seal the edge of the tape then painted the green. When I removed the tape, I had a perfectly clean line with no blotches or smears. You can also use caulk to seal the edge of the tape, but I found that if the caulk is white, it will seep under the tape and leave white blotches. The paint worked better.

let the paint dry for about 48 hours and use the blue tape for painting
go to home depot and get a straight edge laser pointer
I'm not positive I understand your question. I was going to suggest using a level when you apply the tape.
Lasers might not show on a flat surface like a floor--try a chalk line, you snap it on the floor and then tape. They're cheap.
With a texturized wall, you have to rub and push down the tape VERY firmly after you've stuck it to the wall. You will probably have to do touchups either way, unfortunately.
When you peel the tape off, peel it back at a 45 degree angle over the tape. This way, if the paint comes away from the wall, it will simply break instead of ripping off with the tape.

I feel your pain - I painted my texturized bedroom in stripes and had to touch up every single stripe.
It is an extra step but is well worth the time. After taping off the wall, rub acrylic paint medium (found at Michaels or other art stores) on the edge of the tape where you want the paint to be straight. DO NOT let the paint dry before removing the tape. You should have a razor sharp edge if you do this. It's great if you are painting stripes.
