How long should I allow the primer to dry before applying the finish coat to the wall?

Question:The surface is masonite panelling.

Answers:
For your situation I'd wait 24 hrs regardless. I hope you used a oil primer like "Cover Stain" or the cheap Kilz product, masonite is a hard surface so there will be no penetration. The 2 primers I mentioned dry and can be top coated in an hour but still wait the 24 hrs. Good luck Les the painter

Oil-a day (24 hours) if you can spare it.
Latex- six to eight hours.
Depends upon the primer. Read the label to be certain. Latex primers are generally 3-6 hours, oil primers will state just a bit longer but it is best to wait at least 24 hours if topcoating with latex paint.
I always give it 24 hours to dry.
