Im painting my bedroom purple..?

Question:im using purple paint, and you can still see the stencils over the paint. my wall was white before, with flowered stencils that were red, green, blue, and yellow. now im painting it dark purple, and you can still see the silhouette of the freakin flowers. i know nothing about painting, so i dont know what i should have done before starting. any help or suggestions? thanks.

Answers:
The stencils on your wall have added an extra layer of paint which is raised compared to the rest of the surface. It is quite salvagable though. Sand the areas lightly, till when you run. your hand over, there will be no noticable bumps. Even though you have already painted a coat, you should treat it as a new wall and prime it first. Ask your paint dealer to tint the primer with the same tint as your paint ( it will be lighter, but that's ok.)
Choose a velvet, satin or an eggshell finish. Higher sheen paint ( ie: semi gloss ) will magnify any imperfections on your wall as the light will catch the flaws making them more visable.
With the tinted primer, you should only need 2 coats of your paint.
Good luck with your project..

i think you should have slightly sanded the previous painted wall... painted primer and them paint it whatever color you want painted
You should have painted with a "primer" first.
just paint over them again okay it happened to me and i was so dumb omg but just keep going over them! good luck hon
now that the damage is done hire a professional to come in and sand and primer and save yourself money by doing the painting afterward and chalk it up as a lesson learned, but before I wouldve started I probably would have done a little research online or read the home depot do it yourself book, you should give them a call explain the situation and see what they recommend now, good luck!
Just recoat at this point until its gone. make sure its dry between coats.

Don't just go over the stencils, you'll see that. Do the whole walls.
Maybe should have used a tinted primer before you used your main color but not to worry.
Your wall will need another coat of paint especially where the stencil was.
Simple: just add another coat or two where it is needed and the stenciled flowers will disappear !
A primer would have been to best bet, all is not lost. Just apply another coat of paint.
