Colours in the living room?

Question:I want to have my living room painted in some bright colours, but simply cant decide which combination is good. One wall is supposed to be painted in ruby colour, which colours agree?

Answers:
Aqua colors or teals with that ruby will enhance it quite well, or if wanted antiqued look.paint one wall ruby..a wall that is generally the focus point of the room..then paint other walls in an aqua or teal shade, let it dry good, dilute some of the original ruby paint by about 60%..get a sea sponge and lightly glaze over the aqua walls.try this on a smooth practice sheet of something prior...Do not soak the sponge heavily on the glaze..real light and wipe over the finish in irregular circular motions till it covers an area where just a hint of the ruby shows over the teals...do not attempt to maintain a pattern make it irregular, doing circular wipes in both direstions etc..it will take awhile to dry once done , the glazing will..but looks great if you like burnished looks...if you don't like my color suggestions try this with any colors over the ruby...

hi rosemary... well, it kind of depends on what's your favorites and what mood are you trying to achieve...

i'll try to simplify your task:
- if you're trying to get a dramatic exciting look... go for the green family with your ruby color... this is a complementary color scheme... but with bright colors it could be too strong and too vibrant... so make sure u include some neutral spaces as well... maybe beige, or gray, or white... best way is to use one of the two colors in a bright tone while the other in lesser intensity...

- if you want something calmer or maybe even minimalist... go for a monochromatic color scheme... use colors from the same family of the ruby color, but in different degrees... in this case you'll also need neutrals, but this time to kill any boredom from using one color... also vary texture and patterns in the living room...

- if u want something in between use color schemes like: ruby + suitable red-orange + suitable orange... or ruby + suitable red-violet + suitable voilet color... both are warm and schemes intensified by the bright tones u intend to use... yet the first scheme is the warmer...

- if u want sophistication, choose only neutrals or also blues with the ruby...

- for lighting u can choose medium warm incandescent light that will flatter u and your schemes...

hope i helped... good luck with your living room
A bold bright color to compliment Ruby would be Emerald. If you want to tone it down a bit, you could go with a gold or a lighter pink or green.

Red is the basic color in ruby and it's oposite or complimentary on the color wheel is green. Hope that helps.
Sandy
silver and gold because they're bright
try www.valspar.com you can virtually paint a room so its ideal

i would suggest a white, off white color and then if its not bright enough paint over it its best to start with white or off-white because its easy to change if you dont like it
