How can I update my bathroom easily and inexpensively?

Question:I have a problem bathroom: The floor is covered with (ugly & dingy) peel & stick tile, possibly glued directly to hardwood flooring. The previous owner also painted some of the ceramic tile on the walls and did a poor job (plus, they were painted a totally different color scheme from the shower tile). Are there any quick and fairly inexpensive ways to update the floor tile and re-paint the wall tiles?

Answers:
Well seeing as the floor is allready covered with peel and stick I would try to remove it... if its glued to the floor then cleaning it really well and putting a new peel and stick floor over it will be the easiest way I can think for the floor... now as for the tiles you can always try to remove the paint from the tiles I might imagine that there was something underthere they were trying to hide and you may want to just try to cover them with another coat ... It really hurts me to say cover tiles with paint but its probably easier... either way good luck with that it sounds like a real mess

Painting tile is not a good idea. I would try stripping it to see if I could live with the tile by painting the rest of the room to complement it. Maybe regrout it if it need it.

As for the floor, tear off the stuff you have and put down sheet vinyl, cheap, looks good, lasts well even on flexible base. Probably will want to put a thin undelayment on the hardwood to smooth it though.
Go to www.hgtv.com.they have tips and stuff on remodeling various rooms in your house. They also have alot of tv shows that show inexpensive ways to spice up bathrooms, living rooms, and other rooms; which you can search up either on the hgtv website or www.youtube.com
Pulling that old stick on tiles off is going to be very, very hard to do. I just went through that and it was a nightmare. Then three handymen tell me that it isn't necessary after all. You could buy a remnant of carpet or linoleum and put it right over the existing floor covering.

Try to get the paint off of the tile with fingernail polish remover. I'm pretty sure that would work without damaging the tile. Once the tile is cleaned, then paint the rest of the untiled walls to match the ceramic tile.
