Is stucco or plaster better for home ceilings?

Question:The goals are low-maintanence and appearance.

Answers:
Stucco isn't typically used for ceilings as it's a cementous product and therefore too heavy. Your ceiling would have to had been designed for the weight and would need (these days) expanded metal lath to hold the stucco. In short....Plaster would be better.
