What is the best way to decide paint color for small studio?
Question:we have about 520 square feet in our studio. the main wall looks so stark from the 'apartment' white that is there now. i want to accentuate the 9' ceilings and keep it livley. i love any thing art deco and vintage im just having a hard time commiting to one color. plus we need to be able to paint over it when we move.
Answers:
I have a room I painted the most rich yellow. It would be easy to paint over, it's cheerful and bright and would accentuate anything vintage.
I matched the color from a pottery barn sample. You can go online at potterybarn.com and request paint samples.
That particular color is perfect and beautiful-it just makes me happy.
The very best way to choose a color is to opt on choosing an item THAT YOU REALLY LOVE and will be using in the room. Pick a color from that.
Here's a site showing the colors popular in the 1920s:

home depot has sample colors in small containers. Buy several that you like- like a red, gold and green and raisen. Paint a piece of plywood that has been divided into the paint sections. Lean against the wall with the art decor that you will be hanging. Walk out of the room, turn around and come back in- what is your eye drawn to? Use that color, or do a color block pattern with several colors. Tape off areas on the wall and paint.
just don't hesitate and get strong colours, obtain lighter shades and you can paint 2 walls with that lighter shade (that's because you said " that you want to be able to paint over ") or you can simply use a lighter shade of the centrepiece in that studio
good luck
If you are under 30 you have probably never heard of it but why not try wallpaper. There are a ton of new patterns that are 100% garraunteed to be dry strippable when hung according to instructions and the styles and colors available will BLOW YOU AWAY. THis way you can have more than one color along with movement and pattern or depth. If you haven't looked lately do yourself a favor, go to a wallpaper store. An honest to goodness store that really knows wallpaper, they can really help. Good Luck!
If you are into art deco or vintage, I would go with deep colors, not boring, depressing or drab. A deep blue, or Dark red, olive green or deep orange. I would also make sure that you choose a color that makes you think or feel happy if you spend alot of time in the room. And what ever decor you have accentuate the room not a dramatic contrast.
dont go to dark then its a pain to cover but im a fan of the color blue unless you have a nice pattern to go off of and if you dont like blue green can also be a nice color in the right shade.
