Where is a cheap place for home decor ?
Question:I am moving and want new decor but I am on a budget.
Answers:
There is alot of good stuff out there if you are willing to look...and think outside the box.
I am a seamstress, but you don;t have to sew to use a fabric store. They almost always have a great selection of colors and such. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are plenty of no-sew projects out there. A piece of the right color fabric can make a huge difference in any room.
Walmart is also a good spot. Not just for fabric, but also other stuff. Accent pieces, pilllows, bedspreads, towels, etc... You never know what you might find. Target is GREAT for decorating too. They have a great selection and fabulous stuff. As for quality, I have been very satisfied with Target's items.
You also might consider using something differently..this is the really outside the box part. For instance, I used a large tablecloth as a coverlet for my bed. I picked up the contrasting place mats for throw pillows and WOW! Total room make-over for less! In my living room, I used cloth shower curtains as window curtains. I have extra tall windows so no hem required. Of course, a little curtain puddleing is ok with some stuff too- if you don't want to hem. This works especially well with solid colors.
For more ideas try the home and garden web site........ is no end to the possibilities!
ikea lol
do you have a bed bath and beyond? if you do call 1800gobeyond and ask to be sent coupons it makes some very nice items affordable!
I have recently finished building a house from scratch and spent a lot of time figuring this out. I can find no reliable source for most things that is cheaper than the big box home centers such as Home Depot. Looking in classified ads, looking at sale tables in the big boxes are possibilities but fill a narrow gap only.
Just how cheap are we talking about? You can look into Ikea they're reasonably priced and they have good quality things. Also, go to smartbargains.com and you're find inexpensive things as well...you might want to look into local thrift shops to see if they have little knick knacks too.
Take Care and Happy Shopping!!
I bought a brand new house and alot of my decor is from Fred's Dollar Store. They have the very elegant looking plant stands for the artificial plants I bought there as well. I couldn't stand the thought of putting holes in my walls except very important wall hangings, so I bought 2 ( 1 for each bathroom) $6.00 two tier wicker basket type thing to put my toilet paper in. I put 3 rolls of paper in the bottom aong with femine hygene prod. and a artificial plant (from freds) in the top. I also have many lamps from there as well. avg. price is $15.00 for each one. They also on occation have wing back chairs, probably not great quality, but if you dont have children that will jump on the furniture, it should last a while. I also bought a cherry (not real im sure) oval mirror on a stand along with a matching vanity table and stool for my 16year old's room.
I get compliments on my decor all of the time, But I dont tell where I got it. IT'S A SECRET !! Im also on a budget.
St. Vincent's. garage sales, Salvation Army, friends, garbage day, etc, most of all, patience. I looked for a chair, for a year. Found one for $119, compared to $329.
TJ Maxx
Garage sales, thrift shops, the curb, etc., also Salvation Army or Goodwill.
The dollar tree has some nice things, depending on your style. You can find alot of 16"x20" prints there for a dollar, walmart also has nice prints from a dollar up. Try lakeside.com. They have things there that are extremely cheap, but look nice.
