Can window tint crack a window?
Question:Our dining room window was tinted.
We did it ourselves.
WIthin a week we noticed a fairly large crack in the window. By the next day the crack reached over the entire window. The window is double-paned.
The weather was nice- not too hot or cold.
We cleaned the window throughly.
Can window tint desgined for use in the house cause such a crack? It seems odd that the window cracked from in the inside, where the tint is within a week... Nothing could have hit the window and cracked it.
Answers:
The simple answer is yes.
Window Films are tremendous energy, UV and glare reducing products. Thicker films can hold the glass in place after an impact or against strong winds. .but. .
If you installed a darker film and there is a shading on the glass from an overhang or tree, the temperature differences can create thermal stress and fracture glass.

Installed films like LLumar and VISTA have glass breakage warranties..Vista has an even more comprehensive plan.
Check with the film MFG or where you purchased this DIY produc if there is any compensation they might offer?
window tint did not do it some one must have hit it
No, it can not crack from the tinting. Your window must have had a hairline crack ,but was un-noticeable. The movement of the glass, during the application of the film, must have cracked it the rest of the way through, and is why now noticeable. The glass on the inside ,could have been cracked during the installation of the window. Like, only a stress crack. That kind doesn't show until it goes all the way through the glass. Possible cause to make it visible ,would be more stress on the glass during installation of the sun film, but not the sun film itself. Even heating your house would have eventually cracked it the rest of the way through. Even with out the film! Bye
nope... i've had window tint on my windows done by ourselves & no problems. U had something else happen. but the good thing.. that tint would help from keepn the glass all over.. sorta like tape.
I don't believe that the window film would make a window crack, but what I do know is that it will void a warranty on just about any manufacturers window.
