azaleas are lovely dont drop there leaves and give beautiful flowers.
Primula, Lavender, Hebe, Hosta,
Stick to evergreen bushes, as anything that falls in autumn will leave a riot of a mess in the garden, and if you want low maintanence it's the best way to go.
When choosing your bushes think of leaf size, small leaves are a nightmare to rake up when you trim the hedges, big leaves are much easier.
no problem if you are a family of gnomes. put in a small raised pond circumnavigated by a floating colour changing light. wild foxgloves against the fence and cascade red tresco fire mesembrianthemums with the beautiful pink flowered variety, you will not be dissapointed by these plants in either border or cascading from moist pots, they are easily propogated in late Spring by plucking new shoots and placing them in a good feeding compost and within weeks you will have a plant to fill in or replenish plants that may seem to be getting old or for giving to people. You will love them they are at their best right now..the flowers close at night or when its overcast, but when the sun is shining they are magnificent, they are semi-succulent so are quite resiliant to disease, but may be harmed by frost, so keep plenty in pots for indoors if you have space, alternatively, you can cover them and they will survive frosts down here on the south east coast. Have fun.
