Wood Wainscoting in the Bathroom?
Question:
Answers:
I wouldnt do it. You could, but you would need to seal it completely due to moisture in the bathroom. I do think you can find a vinyl type of wainscoating its fairly expensive, but can be used in the bathroom.
not if you have boys.or a husband..
Personally, I wouldn't because the steam from the shower would make the wood go bad after some time. Ever heard of woodrot? Same concept. When water gets into wood, it causes it to rot over time. I wouldn't waste my money to do that no matter how nice it looks. Good luck.
Water and Wood don't mix...
I am a contractor working in the luxury home market ,and beadboard wainscoting in bathrooms is quite common, just be sure the bathroom is well vented and you will be fine.
No way - doesn't look right in a bathroom.
Just did that in my bathroom. Lowes sells beadboard panelling that is rated for sublevel...meaning it's ok for moist areas. Looks great, just like the real wood, but washable and won't warp!
Absolutely, take previous advice regarding waterproofing_ just use good caulking if near tub and definitely do not use in tub area. Use paint designed for bathrooms atht have mildew protection
Lowes and home depot are great resources for real wood wainscoting sold in 4x8 sheets. This can be a great inexpensive project and can hide a multitude of wall problems- old wallpaper, cracks in plaster.
A great vintage or cottage look- instead of the usual clam or scroll molding on a 36 inch high wainscoting:
- set a base molding simple 4x1 strip at floor with either a decorative bottom molding a or a simplle quarter round.
- set the wainscoting 38 inches high on top of the 4 inch piece
- top with a horizontal set 1x2 inch cap
- use quarter round in underneath the cap overhang and the wainscoting
- prime and paint with mildew resistant gloss white
- paint or paper walls above based on your design scheme
Some suggestions any historic color from Benjamin Moore for a cottage or vintage look. White bath items ( also least expensive ) set off by fixtures with rubbed oil or bright nickel create a great look.
My sister and I are designers for industry and home and this is one our biggest sellers fro bathroom design.
You can do this project very inexpensively if $$$ are an issue or take it to a high end if money is no object.
Create and enjoy!!
maybe it is better to install plastic wainscoting in you bathroom
Its not wood. Its veneer. Tear it out.
