Polyurethane over paint?

Question:I just finished painting my cabinets and as I was putting them up, I realized how vulnerable the paint was...especially to getting hit or nicked.

I have some Minwax polyurethane gloss to put over it to protect it, but I've heard that it can pull the paint off. I don't want to do too many coats because I'm afraid it will be too glossy as well. If I put one coat of it over newly painted cabinets, do I have anything to be concerned about?

Answers:
you would be better off just using good old varnish,I am a apinting contractor and when we apply glazing on enameled cabinetry ,we just topcoat with varnish, use a satin and it will not be as glossy as the poly, and will give the protection you need.
