Spider issue?

Question:I just moved into an old farm house. It's our " fixer upper" haha Anyway, my 2nd day there, we found 5 BIG spiders. I am PETRIFIED! How can we make sure that these spiders won't be in the house. We bought that Ortho bug/spider killer. ( You spray it all over the house and outside.) Will this work?

Answers:
If it is an old farmhouse it most likely has a basement that is exposed to dirt, and is thus moist or damp. If you have spiders, you also most likely have house centipedes which in my opinion are even more frightening than spiders. The centipedes eat the spiders but they are CREEPY looking. I live in a 150 year old house and a portion of the house basement has dirt under it that is open to the rest of the basement and what I did was take a bug fogger or bomb and set it off. These are very cheap and you just have to leave the house for 2 hours after you set it off. You then just come back and open up the windows for about a half hour and you are good to go. If you do this once a month it is well worth it as it kills everything.

Bad news, my friend...

On a farm, the real estate is at a premium so you're going to find a lot of spiders. And they will keep on coming back and back and back. They will appear everywhere like Leprechauns.

Spray all you like but they will keep moving in.

But they hate citrus spray so that may keep them in the crannies and the nooks out of sight.

Your best bet is to get an electronic insect repellant.

You plug these into a powerpoint and they make a subsonic noise that nearly all insects can't stand.

If you drive the food source away this should pretty much minimise your problem.
