Recess light alternative?
Question:Hello There,
In Master Bedroom recess lights look good, but are there any other alternatives? What is the most preferred lighting in Master Bedrooms.
I heard of CFL Downlights, but my builder is not fixing those. Has anyone used these? Is it easy to install later in place of recess lights?
Also, can I put CFL in recess light? Will it be effective?
Kitchen: what type of lights is best for kitchen?
Thanks.
Answers:
The alternative for the bedroom is sconces which shield the light from the front, so the glow from the bulb goes up toward the ceiling, where it bounces back in a diffused way into the room.
Problem with CFL is that the flourescent light is "cold" (TOO white) which doesn't go well in a bedroom, but would be a good choice in a work area such as the kitchen. Some CFLs are made to go under cabinets (or can be made to do so), giving you the recessed effect. Otherwise, aside from genmeral area lighting for the kitchen, you want lights that illuminate your work areas: over the sink and stove and counter spaces where you prepare food, do your baking, etc. In my kitchen, I used track lighting over the food prep area with bullet type lights I can aim. These lights are also on a dimmer, because the dining room is right next to this area, and the lights may be dimmed for "atmosphere."
I hope this helps.
