Carpet vs. laminate wood flooring?
Question:I'm a teenager, and I'm redoing my room in kind of a beachy theme. Since we don't plan on moving anytime soon, my parents have given me pretty much free reign with the flooring- as long as it is affordable. I always see cool rooms in magazines with laminate wood flooring, so I'm kind of leaning towards that. But is carpet more practical? Any advice is appreciated! :)
Answers:
the laminate flooring will be 'healthier' for you as it doesnt harbor the dust like carpets... and you can 'see' when you need to run a dust mop around to clean it up. Carpet is good if you want it to be more 'cushy' on bare feet when you are lounging around the room
laminate is GREAT. Easy to clean and doesn't hold a stain like carpet. Especially for a beach theme, a wood laminate would look better in my opinion.
Laminate is more hygenic/ easier to clean up spills etc
carpet is warmer
carpet dulls sound
I am a real estate investor, and have used both in homes. It depends on how the floor will be used. Carpet can get worn down over time if not taken care of and it is stained easily. Laminate flooring is a cheap alternative to hard woods, but will dent easily, and (depending on the brand, and quality) may come out not looking like hard wood floors.Price per sqaure foot- laminate would most likely be better. I would get samples at Lowes, or Home Depot.
Both are cheap and about the same price.
Laminate is very easy to clean and should not stain.
Carpets can get very dirty and hold a lot of allergens.
I am thinking of redoing my living room and I think I will be changing to laminate.
Ikea has great deals on laminate flooring. Its easy to do yourself . You might want to look there first.
Carpet. If you want wood floors, original is most attractive, laminate looks cheap. Sandy color carpet, possibly burber?
I did my whole house in laminate flooring and vinyl. Way easier to clean and keep that way. Carpet harbors lots of dirt and if you have critters they carry in bugs and if you spill something on it its hard to clean up and it gets stinky and looks ugly unless you vacuum it every day. Really good carpet is expensive but looks nice for a longer period but it still takes all that work. Laminate flooring looks great - go for bamboo, it is eco friendly, looks outrageous and will hold up longer than the house and will match and decor change you want to make.
if you want to stay in the beach theme then laminate would be your best bet. Plus laminate is also easier to clean than carpet and you don't have to worry about spills and stains.
in the winter it would be better to have carpet though because the laminate floors might be cold on the feet, but if you choose to have laminate floors then you could always put an area rug down to keep your feet warm in the winter. I bet if you wanted to put a rug you could find a cool beach pattern rug that would go great with the decor in your room. Good Luck.
i would choose laminate because it makes a house appraise better plus if accidents happen in there it is easier to clean up on laminate than to really get stains out of carpet
depends on where you are. are you in a tropical country or in a tempearate country? do you have your airconditioning unit on all the time or do you often open all your windows?
laminate flooring is definitely easier to maintain.
Good question. Since you have been pretty much given free reign with the flooring, you might want to also consider a cork floor, it is hypoallogentic, has excellent life, easy to clean and works excellent with those that have asthma or other respitory conditions, and resell of homes with cork flooring is higher versus the laminate wood or carpeting.
Carpenting which has a beautiful look when newly done, but unless you use a wool carpet, it will show wear over the years but wool carpenting stands up to time.
Hmmm I chose the Cork over all.. please read up on it more before making your decision.
Go laminated wood, but in light color like oak or berch
don't use carpet if u are the lazi 1. infact, carpet would not last longer.it would be bettre if u use 'tikar getah'(rubber mat,may be).
definately laminate i have in everyone room in my house. you will love it.... by pretty throw rugs to match your decor
For my money wood flooring is the way to go. It is easier to clean and is great for allergy suffers.
choose who will come to ur home.. how much time u can give it for cleaning.. how can u maintain each carpet or wood flooring..
i wud go for wood flooring.. but it also depends on the area or climate etc. Also budget matters.. so one has to choose the best suitable option based on maintence v.s inital cost too.. wat say... i had referred lots of sites n lists n forums before we made our home.. like homeinteriordecor.org, fengshuithelp.com
One option is carpet tiles which are very practical. You can easily do it yourself and with mix and match tiles you can even change the design of your floor if you don't like your first attempt. The tiles can also be indoor outdoor if you want. You can find them at most places that carry flooring. It's easy does it all the way around.
Get a laminate. It is easier to clean and maintain and the brown color hides stains. Plus if you have allergies carpets hold molds and allergens so go for the laminate.
