Answers:
storage storage storage

room to store the photos she'll soon be collecting, craft projects she likes to work on.

you said she has furniture, did you include a desk? make the desk an awesome work station, help her think of ways to keep her stuff organized, a desk organizer set isn't a bad idea. help her build good study habits with good study space!

make sure she has separate space for relaxing, a mini chase lounge near the window is an idea, or a comfy storage bench.

start bringing sophisticated geometric patterns into her bedding and upholstery and curtains.

if you're trying to divide space for sleep and study and fun think about dressing screens and curtains from the ceiling.

ask her if she wants a country feel or a more urban loft style, go through better homes and gardens magazines and see what she likes.

Lots of material. Flowing lace, some of those icicle christmas lights behind it. Paint clouds on the ceiling.
go to google and search 'teen room decorating ideas', there are a lot of helpful sites with ideas.
Involve your child. You'll be amazed how helpful asking a few basic questions can be. Even if you think you already know, ask your child what she likes, what she'd love to have in her room. The answer may be butterflies, horses, ballerinas -- you never know for sure until you ask.
Create lots of storage and display. Consider buying laundry baskets, wooden crates or any other type of storage containers that she can decorate herself with paints, stencils, etc.
Furniture should be sturdy. Unfinished wood pieces and laminates are two good ideas: they're strong enough to stand up to hard use, and their surfaces can be easily cleaned as needed.

Wow, she only has a ceiling and one wall in her room? LOL j/k.

I recently re-did my 12 year old's room (yellow walls and purple carpet to work with) and I went to the craft store and bought things in raw wood. i.e shelves, CD crates, crosses and the letters to spell her name. I then picked out pretty girly colors and painted them. I painted each letter in her name a different color and hot glued them to a shelf I'd painted white that I hung over her windows. There is ivy that is also on the shelf behind the lettering that trails the sides of the curtains. I also got butterflies, bees and ladybugs from the floral arrangement section and put them on the letters, ivy and shelf randomly.

For her walls I got cute large scrapbook stamps and stamped the opposite wall with the colors I'd used to paint with. I put up white sheers that have little embroidered flowers on then which compliment the colors I painted with.
I ended up with a super cute and inexpensive new "big girl" room! In all I may have spent $100 with the sheers being the most expensive purchase.

With the colors you have to work with I am seeing princess crowns and clouds sponged onto the ceiling but she may be a bit too old for that theme. Think about what she likes that she will not be over next year and build from there.

Take your daughter to the craft store with you and let her help pick things out and then put it all together. My daughter loved it and I really enjoyed the time we spent together doing it.
What are some things she would like? Talk to her and see what she envisions her room to be, mellow, upbeat, stylish, girly, etc. Try checking these out for inspiration.
Something she can enjoy till she's 9 take her favorite theme you pick 3 you like. ask her to chose from those three. and run with it think back when you were little and what she's into. and have fun.
I've seen rooms where orange was added to a pink room and it looked good; maybe an area rug, or floor pillow.
