Decorating windows---please help.?

Question:we recently moved into our new house. The house has lots of windows and glass doors, including the one in toilet and patio door. What are the things to consider before purchasing, blind, curtains and shades. The indoor color is mostly light peach or french cream except for my 10 month old son's room which is white.

Answers:
For Blinds - decide on whether the blinds will be installed within the window niche or beyond it. If you want it to protrude a bit, you will have to add about 4" to the length and to the width of the window, in order to ensure complete privacy.

As for the material, your interior theme should be considered. If you want a natural look, go for wood blinds. If you want a clean and streamline look, you can go for roller shades. It may be expensive initially but its durable. If you are on a limited budget, horizontal blinds are the best. I will advise against vertical blinds due to durability concerns.

For Curtains - try to get magazines or books and do some research. Custom- made curtains/drapery are more expensive, most of the time. But if you have a classic look in mind, I would advise you to have it custom-made.
There are scores of designs to choose from ,and each would have a different character to it. Choose one that fits the personality of the room occupant. For public areas such as the living and dining rooms, choose a more formal look.
Formality can be achieved by choosing a floor length curtain.

For a contemporary home, there are readily made curtains available from stores nowadays that are quite reasonably- priced.
Windows are normally designed with standard widths and most ready made curtains would fit just fine. For the peach room, a neutral color (creme or beige)would be good as a window treatment color. You can also choose a richer shade of peach or a stronger color in the peach family for a monochromatic scheme.

For the creme room, you may add one or 2 colors to it to give it personality. You have the whole color palette to choose from since you have a creme color to begin with. Any color would look good with creme!

The idea is to have one light color, one medium color and one dark color in a room to make it come alive. You may apply these colors on the walls, furniture, upholstery or window treatment. Good luck!

You can also try the film they use for privacy and design. Some of them have a nice pattern in them and they can add a touch of pizazz. Good luck!
what a coincidence to see your q?. I just started in the window treatment buisness.you should consider what you are going to use the room for, would you like to block out the light, more privacy? since you have alot of windows you might go for the privacy. I would get large wood blinds, they bring the natural beauty in and are getting more popular. they also have faux wood blinds. and get some drapery to tie it all together using the colors you like the most.

have fun ! :)
