Morbid furniture and decorations?
Question:Where would I find this type of stuff?
Answers:
Most of the things that people consider "morbid" are actually quite simple to find. The secret is to pull the individual items into a morbid look.
If it were me, I'd start by getting black paint and fabric for the room (s). Easily done.
Then I would start searching estate sales and antique stores for the right kind of furniture. Things with a nice 15th or 16th century feel. I'd look for giant leather bound books, letter openers, large decorative wooden boxes, maybe an old style globe; that sort of thing.
I'd get a few human skull models from the hobby store, put them together then cover them in plaster to make them look more realistic... I'd haunt the taxidermy shops, head shops, garage sales, and novelty stores for those "special", hard to find items. (For instance, our local Spencers sells red shot glasses covered with tin cut out in Gothic arches or cruciforms.) Maybe even make a simple wooden coffin to use as a coffee table and buy some urns suitable for displaying lilies...
Lighting would be the make or break consideration I think. Faux stained glass on the windows in religious motifs... Replace all the lightbulbs with 40 watt bulbs and try to find just the right fixtures to sell the look... Uplights behind a large dead tree in the corner casting shadows on the cieling... Of course there are the candles and candle holders. They are readily available everywhere from WalMart to designer furniture stores in a variety of psuedo-Gothic styles.
I'd accent in blood red with an old area rug, and use the same color for other fabric accents.
LOL, Sounds like a fun way to decorate a room!

You can find morbid decor at Hot Topic but you'll have to shop around for the furniture. You might find something rare like that at an antique store if you are lucky. Oh and around Halloween it is a lot easier to find stuff like that too.
