No more planning permission for loft conversions?
Question:and other building work which the neighbours are ok with. have they decided this because the councils have said they want to revalue houses for council tax banding and if you have a loft or extension etc they will charge you more.

another bright idea from the government to make u pay more lol..makes me laugh really cos if ppl felt real strongly bout things and stood up to them like with poll tax alot of laws would b abolished..shame the petrol prices aint gone down though always wanted a v12 lol
I'm not sure they're completley taking away the planning permission, they seem to getting rid of some of the red tape and costs that are involved. Which is quite good because I want an extension above my garage but was not looking forward to the planning stage.
Maybe but they are trying to cut costs and trawling through the paper work etc.. for these things take's time so they will be able now to cut jobs etc.. which in turn saves them money!
You have to have some permission based on if the roofline is altered, or if the windows will face the front of the building.
Also you must adhere to all fire regulations, which means a proper staircase which is fire resistant, and an emergency escape, and floor joists that are suitable for fire purposes.
You are unable to fit any windows yourself as you are not FENSA registered, and you cannot add a wiring curcuit unless you are a qualifed electrician.
The re-banding of council tax that you mention, is going to be based on the energy efficiency, of the property, as such all loft areas must be insulated very very well, take photographs of insulation and thicknesses of walls as you build.
Your council taxation will be adjusted by the type of heating system you have and the insulation and if there is double glazing.
they are over run and things are taking much longer than they used to do but you will still need building warrants so they will probably hit people harder for them i cant see them losing money by dropping the planning fees although they are charged as a percentage of the building costs and extensions and loft conversions are not making them loads of money revenue wise , as for the banding rates at the moment here in scotland you dont get rebanded when you upgrade your house
