Is it more expensive to get pocket doors Vs. hinged Doors?
Question:We are adding a room to our home and wanted to use a few pocket doors but don't want to pay more for the product or the install.
Answers:
Pocket doors require substantially different framing of the wall. Installation and purchase is twice as much as a hinged door.
The pocket doors cost more and the installation is very difficult compared to hinged doors.
with pocket doors you have to cut into the wall to put in a track, which is difficult if you are not experienced. Pocket doors are good alternatives if you have a small space. If you are doing major construction, then maybe pocket doors would be good.
YES... Because using pocket doors requires a subtantial change in the way that the wall is built (framing) on the side of the door that would otherwise be considered the hinge side.
Alot of correct answers here..yes walls and all have to be cut out etc...pocket doors aree much more expensive over hinged..also another factor..if they drop off the track, or the veneer starts to peel later on...you have to pay to have it all done again1
