Need advice on buying a paint sprayer for an amateur. I'm painting my kitchen and living/den. Which is best?
Question:I've read reviews on several but don't have a clue which would be easier for me to handle on my own. I'm looking for one that is reasonably priced (under $200). Need advice!

We bought one of the wagner sprayer and liked it but that was a couple years ago. You know, if you're only doing a few rooms every few years, I wouldn't bother. It'll saves you some bucks. I didn't like cleaning the thing out either. I don't want to criticize the product because it did perform just as it was supposed to.
We just painted three rooms by hand and the thing that was more helpful than anything was a book we got. This guy knows his paint. It's called Painting Secrets by Brian Santos. We are not newbies when it comes to painting but we learned a lot from this guy anyway. Even the brush cleaning tips are fantastic. We used a matte finish in our living room and sanded lightly between coats like he suggests. Oh my gosh! The walls are like butter. It looks GREAT!
If you still really want to get one of the sprayers or power rollers, try to pick one up on ebay or craigslist.com. Those are the kind of thing people buy and use once or twice then sell them. Great bargain.
This may not help much but here we go. I used a model of sprayer bought from the Home Depot that I had to thin the paint. This sprayer had a tube with a screen that dropped into a 5 gal. bucket of paint. Go ask the Home Depot associates. What ever they say , do not buy a Wagner! By the way I used this sprayer for my landlord when I was stationed in Cali. I have painted before but was the laborer in training. I hate to paint so I didn't pay attention to the name of the sprayer. Hope I got you started on the right path. Good Luck.
P.S. My old landlord bought his sprayer for under $200.00 so give it a shot!
Are you sure you want to spray paint? You have to cover and tape every thing, lights plug -ins, switches, windows doors and hinges. Try a waggner. My cousin has one and it worked great.
Don't use a sprayer. Anything for that price would be too much trouble and not worth it! Just get a good sheepskin roller with an extendable paint pole. A good, heavy paint pan and a 3" Purdy brush for latex. Spend your money on good quality brushes and rollers. You'll never regret it. Also buy good paint, around $20 per gallon. Thats what makes the job go smoothly! I'm a painter and with the good brush, I don't even have to tape anything off.
You will have more pain than not by spraying small areas like that wiith the prep alone..covering windows, flooring etc...unless all flooring is going to be replaced..cabinets etc.hpwever if it's a novice sprayer you want..home depot has "gracos" that are designed for the home owner..DO NOT BUY ONE OF THEM WAGNER POT SPRAYERS WITH PLASTIC CUP.. you have to thin the paint down to almost water like consistency..then it takes 4 or 5 coats..they are trash. They do have them gravity fed wagners now at home depot for 199.00 but then again.. a wagner sucks...
