My living room carpet is dark brown, what colors can i use on the walls.Just bought an older home?
Question:
Answers:
wow, open question.
first, do you intend to keep the carpet? if not, paint what you want to match your future flooring.
second, what kind of feel do you want for the room? calm and serene? fresh? bright and energetic?
third, what color is the trim? baseboards, crown molding, around the doors?
a bright tuscan yellow leaves the room open for bright red upholstery, eggplant colors and dark wood trim, very bright modern and trendy, while still potentially classic and sophisticated
if you go with a light blue you can cultivate an Japanese feel, with minimal furniture and you can accent with orange and white on dark furniture, with a small fountain and some well chosen plants
if you go with the basic cream, it's safe.
you could go with a bright color, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and paint the trim cream, and have cream microsuede furniture, and nice bookshelves and have a very comfortable living space.
don't forget to think about the lighting you intend to have in the room. your lampshades or recessed lighting can make all the difference.
if you go to home depot their paint department has a computer program where you select a room close to your own, or what you want yours to look like, and you can print out different color schemes to test out what you want, and they have multiple accent suggestions to help you figure out borders and whatnot.
good luck
cream will look nice,
You could use a deep orange, a biege, a deep red, and even a yellow
I'd go with cream on most of the walls. Pick one for an accent wall, and paint it a color from your upholstery--
like red, blue, green, orange. Enjoy your new home!
I think that to bring out the brown in your carpet, I would use like a beige (Did I spell that right? LOL) Or may be a tan sort of peach! Hope this helps
With dark brown carpet I would go with a Wedgewood blue. Use dark brown pillows to pull the carpet in and blues in your couch and rugs. Try these websites below to see how it will look.

I would go with either a light colored blue or a tan to modernize your home. Or do the walls one color and do the ceiling the other. eg my home has charcol carpet grey walls and white ceiling to brighten the room.
You could go with a cream or pale yellow color.
