Which windows do you like best?

Question:My husband and I are putting new windows in our house. Do you like the kind with the grids in them or just plain clear? What would you rather have if you were buying a house?

Answers:
In most case I prefer the look of the grids, and most new window are made with the grid between the glass so they clean as easily as a single pane window… speaking of cleaning, double hung with tilt on both sections to make cleaning easier… but, if you have a great view, you don’t want to obstruct you should go with a large single pane…. ;)

Clear, much easier to clean.
I like the clear, it makes the room seem more open.
There are a number of things to consider. Firstly, what is the architecture of the house? Does a plain window fit or is the segmented window more architectural appropriate?

For instance, an old house down the road has leaded glass "diamond" shapes in the main windows. There are fragile and not heat efficient, but they match the Victorian design of the house. So they stay. And yes, they are hard to clean!

Also, look for dual pane and low -E glass.
Personally, I don`t like the obstructed view from "muntins". But if you`re replaceing the windows and you have the money to spend, you may consider a unit such as a Pella or Anderson, which have removable muntins. Then upon selling the house, you`re covered.(take em out or leave em in)
