What types of tiles are suitable for outdoor use?
Question:am trying to tile the path outside but there are so many different types of tiles. what should i look for?
Answers:
outside tiles, indoor tiles will not be strong enough just ask in the shop
If the path is a concrete based... then I would recommend a natural stone product. For example slate or granite. These would hold up to the elements very well. You need to use a thinset concrete mortar to place the tiles. It comes in a powder form and is mixed with water to for the "glue" You may also consider a sealant for the stone after the drying time.
There are several kinds you can use: limestone, marble, granite, slate, ceramic, they are all powerful enhancement to any building project. Depends on how much money you want to spend.
ones that are frost proof, simple as that?
ideally you should go with some sort of natural product ie granite, limestone, but these can be expensive, otherwise you need to be looking at porcelain rather than ceramic, they are harder and often thicker, but you need to make sure they will withstand frosts, you should be able to find out instore if what you want is suitable for outdoor use, so find something you like and ask!
Natural products I agree are best we used natural stone from India they are thinner and easier to lay but not suitable for driving on. We got them from a local garden designer.
Natural or riven flags can also gather water and become slippy.
Polished glass granules in concrete are reasonably priced and look good.
If you want an even surface you may need to buy concrete flags that are available in lots of lovely shapes and finishes.
I like cobbles and stone slabs (real or fake) set into pea gravel and planted with hardy alpines.
Try looking Bradstone website they often have some nice ideas and good advice.
