so which way r u gonna do the stripes? Horiz or vertical? if u'r rm is small in width... horiz will give it an illusion of bigger. if the rm is smaller in ht... or u want it to look taller then go w/ vertical.
so when u say sophisticated... do u mean classy? What DC has mentioned was a good idea but i have easier way... Paint the wall one color. let dry completely ( NOT tacky) then tape off how wide u want u'r stripes. Then get semi-gloss or gloss acrylic varnish & paint in the tape stripes... take off tape... u have the same finish but simplier.
I agree.. u need to look around & c what is goin on as far as dominate colors in u'r room. & if u like those dominate colors then go w/ them. Like u'r curtains/bed cover/ lamps/pillows... what color do u want 2 stand out. Then go w/ those colors.
IF u pick the colors almost next 2 ea other on the paint samples... that would give it contrast.
If u want to do the tecnique we both mentioned.. then u only need 1 color.
Lavenders & purples would b classy. pink & orange would b more funky... shades of pink... aqua. teal. more classy... but if u want more funky class... then go w/ the pink/lime green. purple/lime green. lime gr /brown.pink/brown... aqua/orange.. aqua/blues..
Again.. look at what u like in colors in u'r room. Go w/ that... Be creative & have fun!
yellow marshmellow and aqua foam...
Select a color from your fabrics that you are using in your room, then get the same color in a satin finish and in a semi-gloss finish. Paint the stripes alternating satin and semi-gloss and you will have a very sophisticated look, like a tone-on-tone. This usually looks best in lighter colors, like cream, or pastels. Have fun!
I think you should pick your fave color and then go to a local Home Depot or Lowes or whatever and get a paint sample chip. Pick two colors from the same sample chip...one light shade and one darker. This will jive far better and look far more sophisticated than two contrasting colors like orange and pink. Maybe paint a solid color on the bottom of the wall and use a chair rail and then do the stripes on the top. Pick colors you love...or you won't be happy!
PS. I am Canadian so it was hard for me to type colour without the 'U' LOL
My friends room is painted bright yellow and she has blue, white, and green stripes going through it and it looks really cool. Or it would also be cool if your room was painted light blue with white and green stripes! Good Luck!
