I need to re-decorate my living room. It needs wallpapering but the only paper I can find is £23 per roll.
Question:I need 8 rolls altoghether making it cost of £195 just for the paper.
I am a single mum on a very tight buget and will have to go without lots of other things to pay for it. can i really justify payuing so much for the paper i really like?
Answers:
That is ridiculously expensive for wallpaper.
You can get it much cheaper. It may mean you have to change your mind about the pattern etc but just think about your budget.
I am not on a tight budget, I have a very well paid job, but even I wouldn't pay more then £10 a roll for wallpaper.
Then work within your budget - get a cheaper paper and use paint instead - don't give yourself a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget - compromise.
There are some nice Anaglypta patterned papers now - and you can buy them from places like Wickes for about £3.50 a roll - just choose a nice colour paint to go over it - light and airy is back again
either use paint or try one of the cheeper shops do you have a focus near you ?? they have nice stuff and cheep. some charity shops sell wallpaper at times. i ecorated our nursey recently for 2.50 for 6 rolls of lovely paper i found in a charity store
Jesus where are you looking HARRODS..get yourself down to b&q or wickes ,somewhere like that. you can pick up some nice wallpaper in these stores for about £6.00 a roll.
You definately can't justify this. There's loads of wallpapers for a fraction of that price. Even designer Jeff Banks does wallpaper no where near that price. Also if your child/children are young do you really want mucky handprints on £23 wallpaper?
I understand your point but you see when you go for cheaper paper it might not be durable or you go at a loss as you know the saying that goes cheap is expensive so I would advice you if you can cut down some other expenses you have that if they are not very necessary and buy the good paper.
thats alot of money. how about wall papering one wall and painting the other ones? i know it sounds silly but does look good!
its a lot of money when you cant afford it
the sales are about to start have a look around
like at next sale, marks etc, good quality but half price.
is that you gordon brown.the wallpaper cherie put up last year should do you for another couple of years yet.
whereabouts are you looking for paper, you must be looking at really good stuff, bandq,do a good range of paper, and i dont know if you have one,but you can get some nice paper at glynn webb, because its dear doesnt make it the best,my husband is a decorator by trade,he as his own business, and the amount of times he comes home and tells me the rubbish paper hes just had to hang, and i automatically assume, its cheap,no,its the quality,a friend of mine as just had some laura ashley,30quid a roll put on,and it was terrible to put on.
Sounds like heavy paper so you'll need to size and line the wall first; alterntively you could look at "the directory of grant making trusts" at your local library you may find a trust that is able to help with the cost.
If you contact a local college they will have students that would be glad to prove their competence on their NVQ level2-3 assessment you both get what you need that way.
Give it a go and good luck
wher are you looking for it harrods? theres much cheaper options out there im sure
There are cheaper options, although this is certainly not the most expensive I've come across. However, if you're on a tight budget, it's not ideal.
Try DIY stores - they have a fairly good variety now. The following stock wallpaper for less that £23 per roll.

Having lived in Ireland for almost seven years now there is one annual grind I certainly do not miss ! and that is WALLPAPER !!
It is only to be found in the homes of pensioners & the like !
I am not being nasty or anything it's just the way thing are over here,
Look at any paint brochure and you will see classy looking rooms with colours to match whatever style takes your fancy!
How many of the TV shows doing makeovers on rooms wallpaper? very few now-a-days.
Your style & personality show through much better with a few well placed pic's, posters, knick-knacks, flowers, curtains, whatever takes your fancy..and if the colours are chosen carefully you can make the rooms appear larger, warmer, cosier, sexier! whatever you desire,
so if your walls are in decent shape forget the paper & spend as much on paint for a whole room as you were prepared to pay for one or two rolls of wallpaper...Yours Smiffy
blown vinyl wallpaper from £4 at most decorators centres up north....
That sounds really expensive. You can find great wallpaper at www.decoratetoday.com. I don't know if they ship to the UK (or wherever you are), but they might.
