Framing Music Albums as wall art?
Question:So im moving into a new apartment and looking for a unique and cheap way to decorate the place. as a huge music fan with diverse tastse i got the idea of going on to ebay or some music store and buying some cheap retro vinyl records (12x12 kind) and framming them (the album art work, not the record). What would be the best way to go about this, are there places that allready sell this kind of stuff, and any advice in general? Cheap is important, but not tacky. it can be done im sure.
Answers:
It can be very tastefully done! Get frames that are two thirds plus the the height of the album cover high and a few inches wider. Place a piece of black (or what ever color you prefer to match your other decor) over the back board of the frame. Place the album cover in the bottom half and have the album poking up behind it just far enough to show the record label. Put the glass on top and secure the frame. You could probably do these for under $10 apiece and they would look really smart with several in a row on a wall!
I would buy some cheap frames from a dollar store or walmart and spray paint them. They need to be a bit larger than the vinyl, of course. For a background, pick up some retro fabric.
I don't know where you live but if it's LA go to amoeba or you can go on-line to rhino records,or try www.prex.com/vinyl-records.com... Good luck
I would suggest not framing them and using alot to cover an entire wall like wall paper. Just an option though
