I have new honey maple kitchen cabinets that I want to reseal-what should i use?

Question:I'm concerned about the quality of the existing sealant. Can I seal over whatever finish is on them. They have just been installed.

Answers:
Cabinets manufactured by large cabinet factories usually have a finish that is not compatible with finishing products that you can buy at stores. If you have custom cabinets that were made by a small local shop, you should ask them what they used to see if you can find the same thing.

If these are new cabinets, you really should not need to do any finish work to them. You will probably do more harm than good.

I would say the finish is either water base or lacquer. You need to find out from the supplier what type of finish they put on them. then you can just light sand with about 400 grit sand paper clean well with a tack cloth and apply the coat.
Wipe and clean your cabinets with denatured alcohol, to ensure there isn`t any grease film on the cabinets. Then recoat with polyurethane. You can choose your level of gloss, same as with paint.(high gloss, semi-gloss. satin, etc.).
