Painting floorboards with oil based paint - need quick tip?
Question:Hi,
I am painting the wide plank pine floors in my daughter's room. They are currently stained and sealed. I have already applied an oil based primer, after cleaning them thoroughly. I am now ready to paint with the oil based paint. My question is:
I know that I will have to brush the paint on around the edges of the room. should I brush the paint by hand throughout? Or should I apply it with a roller after doing the edges?
Thanks for any help!
Answers:
you are on the right track. cut and roll. use enamel, choose your own gloss but i would use satin, and a 3/4 napp roller and throw it away when your done.
If they are already stained and sealed why do you feel the need to paint them? You only need to do the edges first if you are going to use a roller. If you paint the whole floor by hand then paint each plank in one go otherwise you may have colour variation patches.
just do as you said, cut in around the edges and then roll it on...use a short haired roller sleeve ,long hair will come out and not look real good!
