Antique Shadow Box?

Question:I bought a antique shadow box at a yard sale. It was in sad shape, but it cleaned up wonderfully, except for the back of the shadow box. It's a mirror and I cannot get stains or fog off of it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answers:
Remove Mirror and go to a Plastic Supply store, Have Size to replace it with a Sheet of Plexaglass coated Mirror Material, --- Antique or not the plastic will look much better and last twice as long.

try vinegar its good for mirrors so should work wonders
If it is really an antique (over 100 yrs old) there likely isn't much you can do for the mirror. The silver on the back isn't the same stuff they use today. But you could check with a glass shop to see what they recommend. An appraiser could probably give you the names of conservators or restorers. That would get you started with advice anyway.

Personally, I'd start hitting the search engines, specifically Google's News search. Usenet archives can be a good hit, since it isn't full of advertisements and misleading webpages just looking to make you buy something.
