What could cause lights to stop working in my kitchen?
Question:

If all are out, I would say there is a thrown breaker. First make sure all small appliances are unplugged, as one could have been the one to blow the circuit.
It is a possibility that there is a GFI by the sink. You can tell by the buttons next to the outlet. Hit the reset if you have one.
Good luck.
If it is not the breaker, or a GFI, you should call out someone to check the system.
switch is off, burned out bulbs, bad light switch, thrown breaker/burned out fuse, bad wiring, evil spirits...
ok - probably not evil spirits
Depends on the light... many kitchens have florescent lights.. in that case it could be the ballast if you have already replaced the bulbs.
In many cases that I see, folks do not take note of the ole " Max 60w bulb" sticker. In this case high wattage bulbs generally break the wire down, causing it to short, or just not carry current at all... Some of the other answers above are good to check too. dp
