Need help redoing a teen room...?
Question:I am trying to redo a teen room right now and she says she want like a cool place to hang out with her friends, multi colored, polta dots, stripes stuff like that. Any ideas or sites? Thanks

I think a good rule of thumb is to use fabrics and furniture that will grow with her. To make the room "cooler" use a fun color paint and wall stickers. Most decorator shops and wallpaper stores have removable wall stickers in a variety of shapes and sizes. When she grows out of polka dots and stripes...she can simply remove them and paint a more sophisticated color on the walls.
try JCPENNEY.COM they have a great selection of teen bedding and they also show the rooms. I've always liked painting each wall a diff color. its really cool
well im a teen too. www.benjaminmoore.com they have alot of colors. tell her to watch kyle xy on abc family and to look for laurie's room. its rele nice i think that shell find out that thats the type of room shes looking for. they got most of the stuff from pier one imports.
Find her fav color, go to home depot, or lowes, and have her pick out one color, and look on that color peice for complimenting colors. have her choose a bright white color too, there are many many differant whites to choose from.
Stripes, are better left on the bedding/bedspread.
Pokka dots are great accents, you can find round mirrors, polka dotted curtains, or even create your own polka dotted lamp shades, or ceiling light covers, with some simple paints.
push boards, that she can put pictures of her friends on, and mount them on the walls, accent the edges with a black , white or her main color she choos
Adding a shag rug, is fun, making it big enough to play a board game on, and have it at the end of her bed, or on the side, around the shag rug, (prefferably a whtie color, or even a loop rug) have bean bag, or fun chairs, heck if you can fit in a futon, so her friend(s) can spend the night if they wanted to, , but be sure it's on the opposite side of the room as her bed, this creates a conversation element, in between, place the rug inbetween there. if you did strips on the bed, do polka dots on the futon.
Be fun with the night stand(s), dress it up with fun picture fraimes, perhaps shapped like hearts, flowers, or have friend designs on it... depends on how girly she is...
Create or have a coffree table somewhere in the room, especially if she wants friends to hang out in there,
You may want to, or not, want to get expensive, and choose to get a mini fridge, they do not consume as much electricity as people presume, they are cheap to buy, and she will feel independant, if you can trust her with a microwave, go for it, a cheap small microwave.
I think as long as she is over 13 she has the responsibility enough to endure a microwave/refridge. I've done a kitchen for someone who was 13 once. What parents would buy...
if she's younger, have her friends come over, and make collages, frame some of her art work, or make shadow boxes of some of her important things...
teenagers, love showing off their accomplishments.
promote posters, posters dont harm the wall if you use pushpins, pushpin holes are easy to repair when you go to repaint. and hardly/ or dont show up when looking at them. I would hang up everything with a push pin, use a few for heavy ones.
the move involved they are, the more they will enjoy it.
Suprise is great at first, but sticker shock wears off.
Try this site: http://www.wakeupfrankie.com/ They have really cute bedding and room accessories. They also give decorating and design advice. I'd also try Target and Pier 1 Imports. Good luck!
