Decor Problems: Which Is Better for flooring, tile or wood?
Question:I wanna make my house look good, which one look more upper-class? I wanna know what rich people use for flooring? tile or wood??(for sitting room)
Answers:
For a sitting /living room you can't beat the looks/warmth of wood.
Tile
Pros :
If your framing is solid tile is great to keep clean little maintenance. . But its heavy so you want to check framing if going over a wood floor.
Cool to touch great if live in warm climate
Cons:
Hard on legs to walk on all day and a pain to stretch out on.(lay down )
If you get crack its hard to get grout to match after repair .
Get tired of it $$ to relace
Wood
Pros:
Better on legs
Warms up a room look wise
Homes with wood sell sooner (In may area)
Can fix small scratches easier than tile cracks
Come and go with framing no problem
You can always strip and refinish same, darker, lighter
Cons:
scratch
Don't like water or moisture
Can move ,warp ,or have seams open up.
Its completely up to you and depends on trends in area (like you follow them any way) I think the wood look fine . I install both and have never been back to replace wood because they were tired of it. Like you can with tile.
Good luck happy decorating
wood id say is better for sitting room, with nice rugs to ad comfort, use tiles in a hall kitchen and bathroom,,
Hardwood floors are especially attractive and easier on the feet than tile. There are many kinds of woods that can be chosen. My choice would be either oak or bamboo. Hardwoods can be stained to the shade that you need, lighter or darker.
It really depends on your priorities. Rich people commonly go with the kind of image they want to create. So here is what each mean and their pros/cons:
Hard Wood: Very warm and inviting. It tells visitors that you have a relaxed side about you. Adding an open air feeling to this room would make it very pleasant.
PROS: Great Look - Soft and inviting
CONS: Wood can scratch and needs to be refinished, which requires a lot of work.
Tile: Tile is typically used to show a very new age, or sharp room. It tells people you prefer a modern look, and like to show a clean and pristine surrounding.
PROS: Easy to care for in most cases - Sweep, Mop, etc - Not as fragile as wood.
CONS: Cleaning can be a pain, and tile is cold to the touch normally, unless you buy heated tile.
Wood has a better resale value and looks good too. This also depends on the room. Kitchen and bath or entry way, a gorgeous tile. the rest of the house, wood.
