Cheap hardwood floors...how to?
Question:So we recently got a puppy. And our house came with white carpet in the livingroom- aka where the puppy loved to pee during potty training.
There is hardwood underneathe- but we're pretty sure it's the original hardwood flooring (house was built in '35).
We are also pretty sure it looks like crap.
Is there any way that we can strip the carpet and make the hardwood look the way we want without spending a bunch of money?
We don't have a lot to spend, so we're looking for the best possible cheap remedy.
Thanks!
Answers:
use a power sander to strip the wood down to where you can see the grain, once it is smooth and clean you con use polyurethane etc. to cover. Talk the the people at Home Depot etc. they are helpful.
Instead of refinishing the old floor, you can put down a 'floating' laminate floor! Many laminate floors do not need to be glued together, but just snapped together. All it takes is putting down a layer of plastic, then snap the floor together, cutting around corners etc. and its ready to use. We have 3 dogs, and have laminate throughout the house !!
