Want to make a old looking scroll !?

Question:Im making invites for my sons pirate party and wanted to make scrolls, any advise on how to do this.I remember putting the paper into coffee and water. When dried burn the sides.is this right?

Answers:
You could place them under the grill on your oven.

This is what we used to do in school (many years ago).

But be carefull when doing so.

crumple it up too a little then flatten it out

rip the edges a little also
sounds good to me. tea will stain it too
teabags daubed on them will give that old sepia paper tone. YES ...Burning the edges carefully will make them look more aged and old...but make sure you break off all the charred bits and have a bucket of water or a sink near you full of water so you don't set fire to yourself or other things!!
You can buy parchment looking paper at most copy stores like OfficeMax... Then you can print the invite and maybe burn the edges with a match. Hope that helps.
tea will create a better effect, and won't smell as strong. Remember that some inkjet printer ink washes off in water- so if you plan to use an inkjet printer you might be better off buying a parchment looking paper, printing it, and then doing the edge-burn after you print.

A wax seal with your son's initials adds a nice touch too,
The kids at school do this all the time - Type it out on a really old looking font then coffee stain and burn around the edges - also rub in a bit of dirt!!
tear the edges first and if you use a brush to paint on the coffee it will take less time to dry an stronger consentration around the edges will save you having to burn them
try cold tea
take a brown bag from grocery store. soak it in water. crumple it up. let it dry. burn the edges. put back in water. let it dry and the write on it w/ a crow quill pen (aka: calligraphy pen)
When we made one for a class project - I put strong tea into a spray bottle and hung the sheets outside and sprayed. First we crumpled them several times. You can get linen paper at the stationary store that holds up to the crumpeling better but it isnt cheap. I burned the edges while they were still hanging up outdoors and damp from the tea to control the burn better. A thin caligraphy pen looks good on it afterwards.
your right
