Do purple and teal match?
Question:I am painting a bedroom for a 15 year old girl. So far the trim is a dark purple, we are trying to decide what color to make the walls. We were mainly considering a teal.
Answers:
i'm thinking the room might look a little too dark. if it's a light teal, it could look good. another color you might want to consider is light yellow. it complements purple really well, especially for a girl's room.. it'll look really pretty.
both teal and dark purple are cool colors and would "go together"
something light, because it will look to dark, what about a lighter version of that purple?
What items do you have to work with? What color is the bedspread? When decorating, it's a good idea to choose an item that will remain in the room and go with colors from that. It's much easier to match paint to a bedspread than find a bedspread that may match your paint scheme... Enough said.
If you just want to know what colors will match this dark purple, then yes, a light teal will look nice. Do keep in mind though that to have complete color harmony in a room, you need 3 colors for balance: 1 dominant color = the walls; 1 medium color = the trim; 1 accent color = the decorative objects such as curtains, bedspreads, cushions, vases, rugs, etc. A 3rd color that would look nice and ensure that the purple and teal aren't too dark is a neutral raw linen beige. If the room doesn't get lots of light, I suggest you go with the walls in this beige and add teal decorative items such as curtains, teal in the bedspread, some cushions, a rug, a chair... If you choose to go with the teal paint, if the room doesn't get alot of light, then keep to a light shade of teal, perhaps going from a darker to a medium to a lighter and even lighter for the 4 walls.
Oh... and remember: you'll need a black element in the room, even if it's only a frame or a lamp... black is not a color but the mixture of all colors and should be used in EVERY room to ground all of your color choices together.
And I don't mean to insult anyone's choices here, but know that yellow and purple are complementary colors. That means that they do go well together... but you may want to tone down any yellow you use with a dark purple... what it will do is make each other color stand out with a scream... And it will make you think of the major thing that purple & yellow are used together for... Easter! You just might find the room too much...
Enjoy yourself! And the new room!
sounds gorgeous
