Installing 'peal and stick' vinyl squares on top of existing squares?

Question:I'd like to do a quick fix to my bathroom floor by Installing 'peal and stick' vinyl squares on top of existing squares that are in very good shape. Should I just remove the exsisting squares or can I get away will just laying some new ones on top?

Answers:
You will need to use a leveling compound over your existing floor to cover any imperfections and to prevent the old seams from showing through. Purchase the highest quality of tiles that you can afford and purchase an extra box should you need to replace any of them in the future. When you lay the tiles, make sure to fit them tightly.

You can definatly lay the new ones on top.

The leveling copmpound is a good idea, but you can get away without it if you make sure to lay the new tile so the seams are not on top of the old seams.

Also you should purchase a finish remover, it is a liquid that when applie dto the tile removes the shine, this will help the new tiles to stick better.
i would install them the way the maker recommends , otherwise the warranty may be voided...
You can get away with it... but you may find that after a while, the texture (if there is any) of the tiles underneath will show thru on the new tiles.

Using compound isn't a very good idea on vinyle sticky tiles. Sooner or later, it will start to crack and crumble and will also show thru the new tiles.

And of course, you can make sure the seams all fit... but once again, sooner or later, if the tiles underneath are not COMPLETELY smooth, the texture will come out on the new tiles.

By far, the best is to remove the old tiles. It isn't hard to do, honest. Just wait for a day when you're mad at someone at go at it! You'll be amazed at how easy they come off!
