What should i do with my popcorn looking plaster walls?

Question:i have popcorn looking plaster walls. They have cracks in them. I've read that u can patch, but i don't know if it would be easier ripping everything down and putting up drywall? And it sounds like they r always gonna get more cracks in them over time? By the way i have no idea what drywall or patching this will cost? I'm looking for the best long term value, thanks

Answers:
take them down

my concern that it may b popcorned over the drywall so r u ready for to tear everything down & put up new drywall? It probably would b the best idea b/c who knows what type of plaster they used on it & y it is cracking & it may continue to crack EVEN if u were to plaster over it.. BUT then again.. it could jst b the plaster & not the dry wall. Is there any way u can get to a spot that u can find out if there is dry wall that they plastered on or what?
IF it was me & depending on the knowledge that i would have to re-drywall or plaster... & the cost... Re-plastering could b cheaper b/c a 5gal of joint compound is about $10.00 then u jst need trowels & some creativity. Where as if i had the $ to dry wall.. i'd proably aim for that.

u can ck out http://www.diynetwork.com ..they have a ? program that mayb someone has had a similar problem.
