Is 6x6 tiles too big for a kitchen backsplash?
Question:The kitchen is medium to large size. Would 3x3 be better? Or will 6x6 make the kitchen pop?
Answers:
that will work, takes half the time to lay them , try useing differnt colors. mix / match
6X6 tiles would be fine and dandy, esp. if you find some that you really Love.
I prefer 6x6 tiles but that is my personal preference.
Either would work.
Find some pictures or displays at your Local Home Improvement Store and see which you prefer.
Happy Tiling !! :)))
Go with the big ones. I just tiled my mudroom and kitchen, and I bought 6 different sizes of the same tile. 12x12 for the shower bottom with rotated 3x3 on the top of the shower, 12x16 on the walls in the mudroom and 24x24 on the kitchen
and so forth. I love it!! I didn't tile my backsplash though, I used a full back splash.
that sounds fine
Well, it all depends on what you have as backsplash space to work with... Measure the area you have to work with. If you have to cut a 6x6 in half somewhere, that will take away from the popping effect, no matter what... So you may be better off with 3x3. The best way to decide is to measure what you have to work with.
If you really want your backsplash to pop, have you considered metal tiles? They would really stand out and are really quite trendy. Check out some of these links...

If you really want your kitchen to pop, then step outside the box... 6x6 or 3x3 are not your only options... Have fun with your kitchen... We spend lots of time in it! Make sure whatever you choose makes you smile! Oh... and just for the record, I too prefer the 6x6 over the 3x3...
Enjoy your new kitchen!
